Old-Fashioned Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 ¼ cups sugar
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup port wine
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 (12-ounce) package fresh cranberries
- 2 teaspoons grated orange rind
Directions
- Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Add onion, and sauté for 4 minutes.
- Add sugar and the next 4 ingredients (through cranberries); bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, and simmer until cranberries pop and reach desired texture1.
- Remove from heat, and stir in orange rind. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
